THE OSCARS: Part Two
I decided that picking shorts was stupid because I’d never seen any of them, so I’m currently at 4/4, which is pretty good so far. Best Make-up: Star Trek!!! 5/5 and I am very happy because they definitely deserved it. It’s not like Avatar could have been nominated anyway, because it was all CGI. I’m thinking about not including Best Documentary either, because I haven’t seen those yet either. We will see. While they show the nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay, I want to say that Rachel McAdams has a gorgeous dress on. Precious won, which is cool, but I chose Up in the Air, so I’m at 5/6. He seems happy about it, so that’s nice. Best Supporting Actress… this should be an easy one… and the winner is… Mo’Nique! Yay! I am super happy about this one because she was amazing. She got a standing ovation too, which is neat – I would cry if Meryl Streep stood up for me. 6/7.
Best Art Direction goes to… Avatar!! Hooray! 7/8. I am excited that they got that – not that there was any real contest in my mind, but still. And Sigourney Weaver got to present it so that was a nice added bonus. Steve Martin is hilarious. He said, “And now to present Best Costume Design, two of the world’s biggest clothes whores!” and Alec Baldwin said, “Ses. Horses.” Hilarious! Sarah Jessica Parker presented and she looks terrible. Bad dress, bad hair, bad spray tan. Now, I wish that Nine would win this, but it almost always goes to a period piece, so let’s see. The Oscar goes to… The Young Victoria - which is what I figured. It doesn’t matter how cool the costumes are in any other movie, if it’s Victorian or something, it’ll win. 8/9. I’m doing pretty good. I do wish they would speed this up a little, though.
They did a tribute to horror films, which I mostly found creepy and weird that they had more than a few clips from Scream and even one from Twilight, which doesn’t make sense to me at all. Sound Editing: The Hurt Locker, which makes sense because the sound in that film was pretty cool. 9/10. Sound Mixing: The Hurt Locker again, which I liked because the same guy got back to back Oscars. In these categories, it’s usually the movies with big explosions and stuff that win, like the Batman movie last year. Good for them. Whatever. 10/11. And by the way, let me ask how John Travolta can get away with wearing jeans to the Oscars? I mean, for real. Is nothing sacred?
Best Cinematography: Avatar!! Yay! Not only does that bring me to 11/12, but I am happy whenever Avatar wins anything. I wonder if they have to thank James Cameron, because they all have so far. Creepy, a little. And, of course, because I hate him, James Taylor was there to sing overtop of the montage of people who have died this year. Ugh.
Okay, so now there are some dancers dancing to the music of the nominated Best Scores, which I think would have been much cooler if they weren’t mostly hip hop dancers. Whatever. Michael Giacchino should win this for Up because he is really good – he also does the music for LOST. Hm. The music from Avatar was good too, I guess, but I don’t think I really noticed the music as much – James Horner pretty much rocks, though. Anyway, for Best Original Score: Michael Giacchino!!! 12/13. I think he should also get one for LOST even though it’s a TV show. So I’ll also pretend it’s for that too. I’m going to open up post #3!
