THE OSCARS: Part One

Here we go! We all know which awards actually matter, but I went ahead and made predictions for all of them – see the below posts for those. I honestly believe that Avatar deserves to win almost everything – it truly is an amazing film and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. The Hurt Locker was okay, but it was by no means as amazing as Avatar and everybody knows it. By the way, did you know that the lead in Avatar isn’t American? Son of a bitch. Zoe Saldena needs to work on her interview skills. She sucks and her dress is hideous. I’m just saying.

Okay, so the awards don’t start until 8:30pm, so now I’m just watching bad dresses walk down the red carpet. No real standouts, except Sandra Bullock’s dress and makeup were kind of lame and boring. I’m waiting for some actual stars, but maybe they’re already there and E! sucks and missed them. And why isn’t Ernst & Young doing the tabulation this year? Weird. And seriously, there is NO WAY they’re going to let Kathy Ireland interview people next year – she is crazy awkward. Best interview so far: Jeff Bridges. Hilarious! But you know, the song from that movie that’s nominated isn’t the best song from the movie. Watch it and it’s that “fallin/flyin” song – way better. Most adorable person on the red carpet? Taylor Lautner. Ahhww. Okay… here we go!!! After this commercial break it’s starting!!

Neil Patrick Harris did the opening number, which makes me happy because I love Doogie. The song was kind of lame, but it was funny at least. I think it would have been cooler if Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did a musical number, but whatever. It was good. Then again, they’re both so funny that it doesn’t matter. Steve Martin is a genius. GENIUS. Got to love Meryl Streep jokes. If you aren’t watching the Oscars (it’s a crime if you aren’t) then youtube their intro if you can tomorrow. The funniest line so far: Steve Martin said: “Gaborey [from Precious] and I have something in common. In our first movies we were both born a poor black child.” Hoo! Haa! Also… “And if you would like a transcript of this broadcast, you should really get a life.” And here we go with the awards. The first is for Best Supporting Actor, which has to be Christoph Waltz and it goes to… CHRISTOPH WALTZ! Yay! I’m 1/1 so far! So it’s been on for half an hour and they’ve only given out one award. It seems like it’ll be slow going tonight. Best Animated Feature: Up! There’s a shocker. Pixar rocks. Coraline was amazing, but that’s okay. 2/2. Best Original Song: “The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart – hooray!! 3/3. They’re introducing District 9 right now – it really was different and awesome and I am so happy that they expanded the Best Picture category so it could be nominated – although I think that Star Trek should also have been nominated because it was awesome.

Best presenters so far – definitely Robert Downey Jr. and Tina Fey – hilarious! Best Screenplay – The Hurt Locker – 4/4. I am rocking it. Now we’re listening to John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller) win some lifetime acheivement award. He’s done a lot of movies I didn’t know he did, like Home Alone, which is cool.

Seriously, IMDB him it’s pretty impressive. Oh! I guess he died this year. Sad. But this is how they get to have this on for 3.5 hours – by moving as slowly as humanly possible. Snore. Best Animated Short: Logorama – I picked that one at the last minute!!! 5/5. Best Documentary Short: I probably should have picked the one that was filmed in Dayton about the closing of the GM plant, but I didn’t. I picked the governor one but I didn’t see any of them, so I’m not too broken up about it. 5/6. Best Live Action Short: The New Tenants - okay, I suck at randomly picking. I am no longer including shorts. So I’m at 4/4 still. I am opening up a new post!
