Mad Men

I remember at the Golden Globes a few years ago, this show called Mad Men won a ton of awards and nobody had ever heard of it. But, of course, because apparently I’m resistent to change, I refused to watch it only on that basis. But it always sounded like a really good show, and it’s set in the late 50s early 60s, and that’s cool. I used to love that show American Dreams (remember that show? It was awesome until it got to be the late 60s and bummed everyone out) and I figured Mad Men would be a lot like that. And it kind of is, two episodes in. The first episode was okay, but was mostly riddled with “hey! check out this doctor smoking!” and “hey! everyone drinks at work!” and “hey! photo copiers don’t exist yet!” moments, which was fine but got a bit tedious. Largely, the story (as of the end of the second episode, at least, which is how much I’ve watched so far) is about this guy who is an ad executive and is possibly one of the most perfect looking people alive. I’m not saying he’s necessarily the most attractive, but he is definitely the most perfect look – kind of like that guy who used to be on JAG – you know who I mean. Anyway, he’s depressed about everything because he has everything he wants but doesn’t understand why it doesn’t make him happy – the same is true for his wife who starts going to therapy. And smokes unfiltered cigarettes, gross. Zoe, the youngest daughter on The West Wing (her real name is of no consequence to me), is a new secretary who is a giant whore and slept with one of the ad execs during her first week before he was about to get married, and is now obsessed with him. My favorite character so far is the redhead head secretary lady who would be considered plus size now but is more like Marilyn Monroe sized back then. She is funny. Ooh and that guy with the grey/white hair who was on Sex and the City as that politician guy. I like him too.

Anyway, it’s good so far, and I highly recommend it. I think it’s only in it’s third season or something, so I don’t have that far to catch up, which is nice. I will report more when there is something more to report.

I have never been a huge fan of quirky comedies (a good example is Juno and movies like it) because they make me irritated. They make me irritated because it’s quirky-ness for the sake of quirky-ness. I can’t really explain it any better than that and I’m not going to try. As a result, I knew this movie wasn’t really for me, but it was on the list of nominees, so I’m watching it right now. So far, I don’t like it. Joseph Gorden-Lewitt, otherwise known as the obnoxious kid from 3rd Rock From the Sun, is the lead male in this film, and he always looks really tired and isn’t a good actor. Like, at all. He also isn’t funny and this is supposed to be a comedy. Zooey Deschanel, however, is adorable. I’ve always liked her, even if I didn’t like the film. This movie is about their relationship and, apparently, the 500 days they were together. Of course, because it’s a quirky comedy, the days aren’t particularly sequential. No more podcast

My podcast no longer exists. I was using the Opinion app to record and publish my podcast, and they are closing down the app, which is a huge bummer because all of the other free options for hosting are, for lack of a better word, crappy. So I'm over it for now and will try to blog more. Speaking of which, I have now quit The Orville , Me Myself & I , and The Good Doctor . I have picked up Mom , inexplicably, and am watching all the old seasons of Will & Grace . The new one was funny but just not relevant anymore. I worry that's what will happen with new Roseanne  too, and that bums me out. I just want a really awesome show that is funny and dramatic and interesting. I want another LOST  that doesn't make horrible mistakes and end up in purgatory. I want another Terra Nova  that doesn't get canceled after one season. I want a new Gilmore Girls , Friday Night Lights  Season 1, Frasier , or something that actually makes me excited to watch it every...

Podcast returns!

My podcast will return. All the credit goes to my high school bestie Justin, who convinced me to start it up again. I'm currently trying out Anchor, which already is more fun than the app I used before, and so far is free. Even if it isn't, I think the cost is worth the fun. Topics welcome, but the first podcast will cover the Roseanne reboot, and whatever else I can think of at the moment. Podcasts are super fun. Still trying to figure out if I'm actually allowed to add music to it or not and if it has to be free. This app lets me add whatever I want from Spotify and I'm not sure that's okay. Anyway, I'm excited to start it up again. Starting to finally get out of my Hillary funk and back to the real world. That depression was legit.
