Grammys 2012

You know, I always think the Grammys are going to be great, and I am usually disappointed. This year, so far, is no exception. It's only an hour into the show and everything has been boring. What I don't like is that they hardly give out any awards anymore on the live telecast - it's all performances, and usually pretty crappy ones. I mean, seriously. Rihanna and Coldplay? Rihanna's part was okay, but Coldplay sucks and it's not exciting or fun to listen to at all. Speaking of Rihanna, I am happy for her that she wanted to sing live instead of lip synching her performance, but maybe she should have opted for lip synching if she was going to sound so awful. I'm just saying. And by the way, why is it okay to like Chris Brown again? I thought we all got together and decided that we would hate him forever. Why am I the only one sticking to the plan?

I am excited to see Adele perform, and Nicki Minaj - but overall I'm sure it will suck.
It is also lame that Whitney Houston just died - I mean, it sucks that she died (not that it was that big of a surprise to anyone, come on), but it REALLY sucks that she died THE DAY before the Grammys. I mean, way to put a giant sad cloud over the whole thing. And they have to talk about it, and they have to do a stupid tribute where the people had less than 24 hours to do something. Ugh.

They just said that coming up is The Beach Boys with Foster the People - this will be hilarious. I'm just being honest, The Beach Boys will be weird and probably bad. This is seriously not pessimism, it is based on years and years of disappointing shows. And why is it that the Grammys have the worst sound of any award show? You would think they would have the sound figured out perfectly - but something always goes wrong and the mixes are always terrible. Either all you can hear is the bass player or you can't hear the band at all. Lame.

The Beach Boys... were interesting. I am so glad they had the foresight to realize they are old and probably brain damaged from all the drugs they did - and they had a full group backing up not only their music but their voices as well. I mean, they were definitely singing, but there was at least one voice backing up each guy. Smart smart smart. Maroon 5 did an okay job covering one of the songs, but I thought Foster the People - they were great. That lead singer seriously has a voice on him. Things are starting to turn around, plus I remembered that Bruno Mars performed and he was great. I want to hate him, but I can't because you can tell he is super talented, even if he's kind of a douche. His performance and Foster the People are my favorites so far.

Add Taylor Swift to that list because I love that song "Mean" and she did a great job. Not to sound obnoxious, but she really has come a long way as far as live performances go. She sounds great and she is super confident and did a great job. Yay! And she always seems genuinely surprised when people respond positively to her performance. That makes me happy. Even if she's faking, she pulls it off really well.

I will keep updating as the night goes on, and I will try to be cautiously optimistic.
