So far so good

In anticipation for the Oscars (with the fall of pirate bay I was behind and didn't get to watch anything before the globes), I have now seen several nominated or potentially nominated films, and I have been pleasantly surprised. Last year, most of the movies were, for lack of a better word, dull. Yes, Into the Woods was weird and boring, but some of the others have been fantastic. And don't get me wrong, I love musicals as much as the next person - actually, I love musicals more than the next person. Rent , Chicago, Cats , Phantom, Book of Mormon, you name it, I usually love it. But Into the Woods was just bizarre. I saw a televised stage production of it with Bernadette Peters in college and loved it, so I assumed the movie would be that much better. But apparently college me was stupid and thought the songs were good when they were actually terrible. Sondheim rules, but not this time - the lyrics are ridiculous and sound like a third grader wrote them. And I'm telling ...

Back to civilization

Things have been crazy for me for the past few weeks because I just started a new job, which is awesome, and is my first real ™ job and it’s very exciting. As a result, I haven’t really had time to do much of anything except be excited and work. Things are starting to calm down because I’m almost out of training, so I have things to talk about again. First off, Survivor is awesome this season. Amazing. I think they should put Russell on every season becasue he makes it fun and exciting to watch. Unfortunately, next season will be horrible and boring. It’s coming down to the end of the season and I know he probably won’t win (I can wish, though), so I’m hoping for Colby or Jerri or something. It’s awesome, though. It’s the show I get the most excited for. Including LOST. It’s a great show and it’s always been fun to watch, but with only a few episodes yet it’s starting to get both irritating and sad. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

On Saturday, Ryan, Rachel, their mom and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. First, a brief comment on the audience. I understand that the books are largely viewed as children’s books, but the books really grow with the characters and by the time the sixth book comes around, the students are fourteen and the general tone is pretty dark and depressing… cause that’s what fourteen-year-olds are like. They are. It’s true. My problem, then, is not with the books or the movie, but with the parents who allow their VERY young children (like under the age of eight, as young as around two or three) to come to the movie theatre for the seven o’clock showing and sit through two and a half hours of gruesome and scary scenes. Let’s be honest – if I was really young and saw this movie, it would probably scar me for life (much like the movie It – that is terrifying and you know it).
