The Grammys: Predictions
Now, I am not as obsessed with the Grammys as I am with the Globes or the Oscars or even the Emmys. As a result, my predictions are usually WAY off because I pick the songs and albums and artists I like the best rather than which was the most successful or what the most people liked. But I don’t care. I am not concerned if my percentage of picking sucks. Whatever. So, here are my predictions based on my personal taste – maybe I’ll win one or two this year!
Album of the Year: Nominees are Beyonce, The Black Eyed Peas, Dave Matthews, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. First off, no way Dave Matthews wins because Dave Matthews blows and everybody knows it. Disturbingly, Entertainment Weekly seems to think he will win. Yuck. In my opinion, it HAS to be Lady Gaga. She is the most entertaining and I believe she’s had the most singles off the album, unless Taylor Swift has more. So maybe it goes to Taylor, but I pick Lady Gaga because I love her and she is amazing.
Song of the Year: Nominees are “Single Ladies,” “Use Somebody,” “Poker Face,” “Pretty Wings,” and “You Belong With Me.” What the fuck is “Pretty Wings?” I have no idea. I get the feeling Taylor Swift wins this category, but the first three are some of my favorite songs this year: Beyonce, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga. If any of those three win, I’ll be happy. But come on, it should probably be “Single Ladies.” Who doesn’t love that song and that video??
Record of the Year: Although sales is probably taken into account here, I don’t care. Nominees are “Halo,” “I Gotta Feeling,” “Use Somebody,” “Poker Face,” and “You Belong With Me.” Again, I probably give it to Taylor, but I really think that the Black Eyed Peas should win this category – or Lady Gaga. Because she rocks. In a perfect world, Lady Gaga would sweep every category, but right now I’m hoping she wins anything.
Best New Artist: Nominees are Keri Hilson, MGMT, Silversun Pickups, The Ting Tings, and Zac Brown Band. I could care less. But I really like that song by The Ting Tings, so I guess them. But there’s no way they win. Zac Brown maybe?
Best Pop Performance: I’m not even going to list the nominees because The Black Eyed Peas are going to win. There’s no competition, I think.
Best Rock Album: AC/DC, Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood, Dave Matthews, Green Day, and U2. I really like Green Day even though I think everyone else on the planet hates them, but I bet Eric Clapton wins or something weird like that. As long as it isn’t Dave Matthews or U2, I’m happy.
Best Rap Album: Common, Eminem, Flo Rida, Mod Def, Q-Tip. Okay, Entertainment Weekly’s predictions haven’t matched up with mine at all yet, and once again, I think they missed the mark because they picked Eminem. Relapse sucked and it sucked way harder than any other Eminem album yet. I think Flo Rida should win.
Best Alternative Music Album: I dunno. Death Cab seems unlikely, so maybe Phoenix wins, or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? I don’t really know this music.
Best Contemporary R&B Album: Beyonce. This album is awesome.
Best Dance Recording: Duh. Lady Gaga.
The rest don’t really matter. I hope the performances are good this year, because if it’s just John Legend and Mary J. Blige, I will be very upset.
