Why I Love Robert Downey, Jr.

i love robert downey jr. and here is a recent comment he main that explains why: “My whole thing is that that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ‘The Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so fucking smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? Fuck DC Comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from. You know, you’re never too old to burn your bridges because I believe I have offended everyone. I think I’ve got a couple more. ‘I’ll burn that bridge when I come to it’ is my favorite phrase I’ve ever coined.”

Funny, that.

I love the Olympics. I have been doing nothing since the opening ceremony but watching olympic coverage on every station it’s on – right now, in fact, I’m watching men’s volleyball on Universal HD. HD olympics rules. Anyway, another reason I love the Olympics is that there’s something peculiar about it that makes people (not all people, but me at least) overly patriotic for about two weeks. The perfect proof of that came during the opening ceremony. I loved the whole thing and nobody will ever do a better opening than China did – they rock. But the interesting part for me was President Bush. According to NBC, he is the first president to ever attend a non-US Olympic Games, which is awesome. I would totally go to the olympics too if I were president. And then they sat him and Laura next to Putin in… get this… ROW 10. Is it too much to ask that the president of the US be sat in a box or in special seating? I was irrationally offended as an American until I realized what I was saying. Tha...

No Oscar for Heath Ledger

Yesterday, I saw the new batman movie, The Dark Knight. First off, I don’t like the title – I think all the batman movies should start with Batman, but whatever. As I can’t stand everyone talking about how Heath Ledger should win an Oscar because he’s dead, I was expecting the worst. I was also the only person on the planet who hated Batman Begins, and I don’t think Christian Bale makes a very good Batman. I swear, the first half of Batman Begins is like The Last Samurai. Weird. Anyway, so I had low expectations. Very low. But you know what? It was really really good. There were only a few moments that were boring, and I really enjoyed the film. Heath Ledger, in my opinion, did a fantastic job as the Joker. I love when you can’t tell who the actor is, and that’s what this was like. True, he didn’t do much acting, relying instead on a weird voice, makeup, and creepy facial ticks, but who cares? It was believable and I loved it. However, let me make myself clear. Heath Ledger should not ...

Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again!

So I was reading perezhilton.com this morning and on the site is a link for a leaked version of Mamma Mia, which doesn’t come out until Friday. Sweet!!! So right now, at work (because my job is amazing) I’m watching it, and I’m really glad I didn’t pay $8 or whatever it is to see it in the theatre. I mean, I love musicals probably more than the average person, but as it turns out, I don’t really like ABBA. However, I LOVE Meryl Streep. A lot. She is totally the best ever, and she’s a pretty good singer too. The biggest surprise is the daughter from Big Love, you know, bug-face, blonde hair – is actually really good too! She’s one of the leads, and I really like her… Plus she looks a lot like Meryl Streep, so it’s believable that she could be her daughter. It’s getting progressively better, but I think seeing it once is plenty, unlike RENT or Chicago which I could watch over and over again. I also didn’t know that Madonna’s “Hung Up” song was sampled from ABBA. Creepy. Anyway, if you wa...

Atheist Sues the Military

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (CNN) — Army Spc. Jeremy Hall was raised Baptist. Army Spc. Jeremy Hall, who was raised Baptist but is now an atheist, says the military violated his religious freedom. Like many Christians, he said grace before dinner and read the Bible before bed. Four years ago when he was deployed to Iraq, he packed his Bible so he would feel closer to God. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and has a near perfect record. But somewhere between the tours, something changed. Hall, now 23, said he no longer believes in God, fate, luck or anything supernatural. Hall said he met some atheists who suggested he read the Bible again. After doing so, he said he had so many unanswered questions that he decided to become an atheist. His sudden lack of faith, he said, cost him his military career and put his life at risk. Hall said his life was threatened by other troops and the military assigned a full-time bodyguard to protect him out of fear for his safety. In March, Hall filed a federa...

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

I swear, I’m a sucker for advertising. All the magazines I read and all the shows I watch have been promoting this new show on ABC Family called The Secret Life of the American Teenager. According to the previews, it’s about a girl who finds out she’s pregnant and… well, that’s really all you get from the previews, other than Molly Ringwald is her mom. So, of course, since Greek is over and the only new shows on are seriously awful reality programming, I figured it can’t be that bad, so I taped it and watched it last night. Here are my thoughts: I understand that shows today need to have a lot of drama to keep people interested, but this show goes a little overboard. The first episode starts with band geek (and French Horn player) Amy coming home from school and discovering she’s pregnant. Then we find out she’s 15. Seriously. 15. Scary. Plus her mom is Molly Ringwald, and that’s also weird because she’s old and it’s creepy. Her little sister is 13 and dresses like a whore. Funny. Anyw...

OMG Olympics!

I am way too excited about the Olympics starting in August. Seriously. I wish I could take two weeks off work and do nothing but watch 24/7 coverage of the Olympics. Yay!!! The only good thing is that there are a few summer sports I don’t care about, especially track and field. I couldn’t care less about that. I’ll stick with gymnastics, volleyball, swimming (synchro too!), diving, table tennis, and regular tennis. so really, I don’t need to watch 24/7 coverage, because that’s only like half the sports. Ryan I think will want to watch soccer, and that’s cool. I usually end up watching a bunch of sports I don’t care about… except track and field. I have no desire to watch that. Another awesome thing is now that we have a GIANT hdtv, the olympics will be that much cooler. Woo!!!!
