Initial Oscar Predictions

Again, these are preliminary, as I have yet to see all the films.

- Best Picture: I assume that The Social Network will win, and I hate that there are 10 nominated films. It won't be The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, Toy Story 3. Other than that, I figure Black Swan is in the running, but like I said before - Natalie Portman was awesome in it, but it wasn't the greatest movie overall, you know? So at the moment, I'm sticking with Jesse Eisenberg and Aaron Sorkin.

- Best Performance by a Leading Actor: I need to watch The King's Speech, because I bet he's great in it. I also love that Jeff Bridges is nominated again, but he probably won't win. So far the only nominated movie I've seen is The Social Network, and there's no way Jesse Eisenberg is getting the win. For now I say Colin Firth, basing the decision on nothing. :)

- Best Performance by a Leading Actress: This is clearly between Annette Bening and Natalie Portman, and I personally think it should go to Natalie, but I would be completely fine with Annette winning, because she was great in that movie.

- Supporting Actor: Christian Bale. There are no other options.

- Supporting Actress: I say Melissa Leo so far, and will hold out until I see the others.

- Director: Social Network, or Black Swan. I thought the direction in the latter was a little pretentious, but they usually like that sort of thing.

- Writing for Screen: I think it goes to The Kids Are All Right, but Inception was also well-written, albeit a bit confusing.

- Writing from Published: The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin. I will accept nothing else.

- Animated Film: Toy Story 3 was amazing, and heads above any other animated movie. I can see it not winning, but I can't imagine it because Pixar is so amazing.

The other awards like Art Direction, Cinematography, etc. will wait until I see the movies nominated. All in all it's a kind of meh year for the awards season. Nothing surprising, no movies that were heads and tails above all the others, and that means something. There will be no outrage from me on any of them (except Aaron Sorkin, lol) - so it won't be as exciting as Avatar losing like last year. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to it, as I do every year. However, now it's time for the State of the Union. Fun!
