Emmy Nominations 2010
I know I’m a little behind with predictions this year, but if you’ve read some of my other posts, you know I’m on detail for work this month, and I’ve been working a LOT. This year I’ve decided not to worry about what WILL win, and instead concentrate on who I think should win. It makes it much more fun for me that way, and even though I’ll be disappointed, I no longer care. The same stuff wins every year, anyway. I am also posting comments on some of the awards that never get mentioned during the live show, just for kicks. So here goes:
Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program - The nominated shows are Adventure Time, Chowder, Disney Kick Buttowski, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Robot Chicken, and Uncle Grandpa. I have seen Chowder and Flapjack several times, and Ryan tells me Adventure Time is great and I should watch it. I seriously think that Flapjack is one of the best cartoony kind of shows I’ve seen in awhile, and it’s hilarious and the animation is funny too. It’s mostly the voice of Flapjack that is awesome. Plus, the voice of Knuckles is that guy who owned the video arcade stuff in Wayne’s World – you know, the guy who was like, “it’s hip it’s fresh it’s Noah’s Arcade” – remember? Hilarious! So I say… Flapjack.
Best Art Direction - LOST is nominated for Best Art Direction for the episode with Richard Alpert’s flashback, and although I didn’t love the episode (or the final season, if I’m being honest), I want LOST to win whatever it can because it’s over. It doesn’t matter who it’s up against.
Outstanding Casting for a Comedy - It HAS to be Modern Family. I fear that Glee will win because stupid people seem to like that show – I mean, come on, it was good for the first three or four episodes, and then it sucked. And Modern Family is one of the best shows ever and the casting is GENIUS.
Outstanding Casting for a Drama - This will be a tough one, I think. Nominees are Big Love, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife, Mad Men, and True Blood. I want Mad Men to win because I recently discovered how awesome that show is, but Big Love is also great. It’s up for grabs on this one, but I hope it’s one of those two, just not True Blood becaues Anna Paquin sucks and is the main reason I don’t watch that show.
Outstanding Commercial – What? There’s a category for this? I’m going to youtube these videos and get back to you. One moment… okay if you go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1w_wDhpugw you can watch all of the nominated commercials in a row. My pick is the Nike commercial, because it really is the best one. The funniest one is the Audi Green Police one, but Nike’s is definitely the best, for sure. It should win.
Outstanding Costumes - Almost always, the award for best costumes goes to period stuff, which is why I assume The Tudors will take this one. However, the costumes on the Madonna episode of Glee were hilarious and perfect, especially the random people walking through scenes. So that gets my vote… although Mad Men is nominated. But I still say Glee.
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama - The category is a mouth full, but LOST and Mad Men are both nominated, and I have to say the camera work on LOST is by far superior to Mad Men, probably because they have more money to hire better camera guys. Maybe not. Whatever. But you never notice that there’s even a camera guy on LOST, and to me that means the camera guy is doing a great job. So… LOST. Big surprise.
I don’t even have to say it – LOST and Michael Giacchino should win for best music – it’s a given. The music on that show is super great, especially the trombones.
Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics – “Down Syndrome Girl” needs to win because that episode of Family Guy was hilarious.
Lead Actor in a Comedy - The only show I really watch is 30 Rock and Alec Baldwin is hilarious, so I guess. I don’t really care.
Lead Actor in a Drama - I hate Matthew Fox, but this would be a huge win for LOST. I would also be okay with Don Draper for Mad Men, and Dexter is also awesome. But man, that would be a coup for LOST, and they might give it to him because the show is over. That’s what happened with The Sopranos even though that last season was horrible. You never know.
Miniseries - The only one I saw was the one about Jack Kevorkian, and it was amazing, so if that wins stuff I would be happy. Otherwise, as usual, it doesn’t matter. As long as they seem deserving and are happy about it, lol.
Lead Actress - In comedy and drama, I don’t care. Betty Draper maybe, but I think Juliana Marguiles has a lock on it. Tina Fey is funny, but I don’t watch enough of those shows to make an informed decision.
Supporting Actor, Comedy - Although Neil Patrick Harris is great, I would love for Phil from Modern Family win for this, because he is my favorite. Or really, any of the nominees from that show (three of them!) would be great.
Supporting Actor, Drama – Now it’s the big category for me. John Locke versus Ben Linus. I want them to both win, I want a tie. If anyone else wins this category (including the guy from Mad Men), I will be extremely disappointed. I will yell at the TV. I promise I will.
Supporting Actress, Comedy - Kristin Wiig was nominated for all the stuff she does on SNL and she definitely deserves this award even though she doesn’t have a chance in hell at winning it. She rocks. Modern Family could win too, whatev. But Wiig deserves it for Gilly ahaha. Or maybe Sue Sylvester.
Supporting Actress, Drama – I love Joan on Mad Men, but I suppose Peggy Olson should win instead because she totally has a bigger part and her character was funny this past season. But Joan, man, Joan. She is the best.
Guest Actor, Drama - Definitely John Lithgow.
Guest Actress, Comedy - Definitely Betty White. That CSI sketch still makes me laugh.
Guest Actor, Drama - Bert Cooper! Definitely.
Guest Actress, Drama – Juliet sucks, but LOST rocks, so I guess her, even though I think Adaleen Grant for Big Love deserves it more.
Best Reality Show Host - I will always and forever choose Jeff Probst because he is the best host ever. For real. And he’s funny! I like how he gets more involved now in tribal council.
Outstanding Comedy - This has to be Modern Family, but I guess 30 Rock could win, but they always do. Modern Family is fresh and different and better. And funnier.
Outstanding Drama - I don’t know what Breaking Bad is, but it’s up for a lot of stuff. Way to go, AMC. My vote is for LOST 100%, although Mad Men is also great. But it’s the last season of LOST and it has to win. HAS TO!
Conan’s version of the Tonight Show is nominated and I have a feeling it’s going to win because everyone hates Jay Leno. I hope.
Writing for a Comedy - This one is tough, but I say Modern Family.
Writing for a Drama - LOST of course, but I think that Mad Men probably deserves it more, and they have two nominations in this category so they have a pretty good chance.

In conclusion, I want LOST, Mad Men, and Modern Family to clean up. Is that likely? Probably not, but I have high hopes. If nothing else, the Emmys are probably the most fun to watch. Should be fun!! See you Sunday!!
