2012

It's about a half-hour until 2012 - very cool. I have decided that my goal for 2012 is to read at least 52 books. I have a few all ready to go, including Ellen's newest book, Tina Fey's memoir, and the Game of Thrones books by George R.R. Martin. I am definitely ready to get started. As far as movies, I have been seriously slacking off. The only one I watched so far was Crazy, Stupid, Love and it was meh. Anyway, I will watch more, I promise. Happy 2012!

Golden Globes!!!

It's that time of year again... that's right, award show season. The Golden Globes nominations came out and, unfortunately, I have only seen one nominated movie, Bridesmaids . I have ten in queue ready to watch, but I have yet to start. I hope there are some gems this year. As far as the television nominations, most of the dramas nominated are on channels I don't get (HBO, SHO, etc), so that sucks, and comedies are just bad nowadays, so those are out too. I have decided to focus on the movies instead, because they are more fun anyway. As usual, I will post reviews (my reviews, not real reviews) of each film as I see them and make predictions based on what I think. I used to also include what will win besides what I think will win, but I'm over that. Who cares what will actually win? It's hardly ever the thing that should win, and dumb Hollywood politics are always involved. I no longer care about my batting average on predicting winners, and instead I am choosing t

Terra Nova...

...is an awesome show. It's a new show this fall on FOX, which is scary to think about in the first place. FOX isn't usually that reliable when it comes to programming, but then again, they did have 24. Terra Nova is like LOST meets Jurassic Park . Here's a brief overview: There is a family on Earth that illegally had another child. The law is that families are restrictred to two parents and two children to avoid overpopulation. The planet is also suffering from serious envrinomental problems. Cue Avatar and Fern Gully. Anyway, the family is found out and the dad goes to jail. The actor is from something, but I and IMDB couldn't figure out what I know him from. Anyway, the wife is a doctor, or scientist, or something, and she gets a shot at going to Terra Nova, which isn't really a place and is more back in time. The quickly explain away how the Butterfly Effect doesn't apply, but I will have to watch the episode again to understand better - something about pa

9/11

Personally, I find it extremely annoying when 9/11 comes around, yet again, and everyone starts talking about where they were and how it changed all of our lives forever. Whatever. I don't need to see the footage of the planes coming down 700 times to remember what happened. I remember it fine. And it didn't really change anything, it was just a tragedy. People like to pretend things that happened in their lives are more important than they actually are. But then I started thinking about it, and I think that 9/11 really did change my life. True, we probably would've gotten involved in a Middle East war regardless, but it definitely was the kick start. I enlisted in the Army on 7/15/2001, just two months before 9/11. My military career was supposed to be about one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer, free college, and that's about it. It was about the college money for me, and about the fact that both my parents were in the Army, and my grandfathers too. But most

The Firm

I have recently started reading some John Grisham, and finished reading and watching The Firm . One thing is interesting to me... In the book, the main character cheats on his wife and the firm tries to blackmail him but he works out a situation where he gets away with $8 million at the end and his wife never finds out. However, in the movie, he comes clean with his wife and there's a huge fight. It seemed like such a small detail to me at first, but then I started thinking about it. Plot devices are one thing, but there's plenty of plot to go around with the book, so why? I think it's because it's more palatable for the public to see that you can't get away with stuff like that. Unfortunately, that's what happened in the book, and if you're willing to believe he got away with the money at the end, it would make sense that he could get away with something as small as cheating on his wife. But I bet it was because of the crazy sensibility of the public. Surpr

Cheers

Again, I will say it. I love the Netflix instant queue. Netflix inflated their prices like crazy recently, but I don't think I will ever be able to give up the instant queue. As long as I have the internet (and something other than a netbook), I can watch awesome movies and awesome shows whenever I want. And I do, trust me. I am currently in the middle of Star Trek: TNG , Cheers , and Star Trek: Voyager. I also finished watching the first season of Switched at Birth . The movies on Netflix are... okay. But the tv shows are really where the awesomeness comes in. They recently added all of the former seasons of Mad Men , and I'm definitely looking forward to watching those again soon. Anyway, the reason I wanted to blog today is because of Cheers . Like everyone, I've seen a few random episodes of the show, but never seriously. It started in 1982, and I wasn't born yet, so it's not that surprising. And when I was a kid, Nick at Nite had I Love Lucy and Bewitched.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two

This is my review: Meh. That pretty much sums up my experience watching the final Harry Potter film. I was well-prepared and I had read the final book about a month ago to make sure I would be able to make an accurate comparison. I think that was my mistake. As a result, I was bored. The whole first half of the movie was, basically, a giant bore. I don't really understand why everyone hated the first part of the movie - I thought it was great. Yeah, the parts with them in a tent were boring, but they were way worse in the book. That's what I like about the movies - they take the boring parts of the books and make them more interesting or, at least, funny. Unfortunately, the last film didn't do that well enough for me. Seriously, the best way to describe it is... meh. Once the battle started, I was really disappointed. I thought they would show more fighting, and not some lame Voldemort plus Harry swirly black smoke monster. However, when they showed their faces melding tog

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two

This is my sister's review: This movie makes Part 1 worth seeing, which is high praise considering I fell asleep in theater for that sleeper.* Helps you remember that this is just the way the book felt, so many pages of FUCKING CAMPING. In fact, if you haven’t seen Part II yet, stop reading this and go watch Part I. If that is definitely not going to happen, watch this short video that completely synopsizes the plot while including mostly movie lines and almost all replicated scenes. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is The Voldemort Movie of the franchise. Ralph Fiennes is wonderful: giddy, panicked, indifferently violent. His portrayal demonstrated how this is a man who split his soul so many times that he didn’t even notice one of them; something my reading of JK Rowling’s Voldemort didn’t give me. If this is The Voldemort Movie, Neville “people die everyday” Longbottom definitely gets second billing for long-awaited awesomeness. The courtyard scene was just right, e

Star Trek: A Love Letter

I love Star Trek . Especially The Next Generation , which I personally think is the best ever. Of course, I've never really watched the orginial, but that will change soon. Netflix, in their enduring wisdom, has jacked up their rates to make it so you can't have the instant queue and receive DVDs in the mail without paying out the ass. Whatever, I will keep my instant queue and will be super happy. Especially because now the instant queue inclues Star Trek , Star Trek: The Next Generation , Star Trek: Voyager , and Star Trek: Enterprise . No Deep Space Nine , which is a little strange, but not important. I have started with TNG because it's my favorite and I love it. I'm currently watching season 2 out of 7, and I have seriously never been happier. And I'll tell you something - the things I used to find irritating about the show (mainly Wesley Crusher and Deanna Troi) are not irritating to me at all anymore. In fact, I think Wesley is a super interesting and well th

Big Brother: my new addiction

My parents have been watching the live feeds for Big Brother for the last few seasons, and I always made fun of them because, well, it seems weird to want to watch random people all day. A little creepy, even. Unfortunately, I am now one of the creepy people. I decided to get the live feed because they were going to bring back old houseguests, and I hoped one of them would be Evil Dick. I was right, which is awesome. Unfortunately, he's already gone. Like, one episode in. Seriously. I guess they're saying it's a family emergency - I hope we get more details. I can't imagine any family emergency being that serious. I mean, like, it's half a million dollars. Sorry to my parents, but if one of you died or something, I'm not sure I would leave the house. Like, a once in a lifetime opportunity, and what could I do - you'd be dead (sorry mom and dad). But for real, it better have been something serious because I was more exited about him being in the house than a

Fiction

I think it makes me the world's worst feminist, but I don't really enjoy reading fiction written by women. Seriously. I mean, obviously chick lit is awful if it's written by a man, so there's that kind of fiction - Sarah Mlynowski, Harriet Evans (at least her first two), Jennifer Weiner, and Sophie Kinsella - all great. But when it comes to a legal thriller or other books like that, I think (in general) the ones written by women are totally awful. They have love stories or they're overly descriptive and obnoxious. Obviously, I'm sure there are some women who write great legal thrillers and government thrillers/mysteries, but I have never come across one. Yuck. Usually I read chick lit and fun teen fiction for fun, because that's what I enjoy the most. However, lately I've been drawn to legal/government thriller/mysteries. I read Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer and absolutely loved it, as I loved the film with Matthew McConaughey - they got the

Big Brother

Initially, I was not that excited about the new season of Big Brother - I tend to get bored with the show about halfway through because I inevitably hate about 70% of the people and to be honest, it's on WAY too often and I never had time for it. However, I no longer have cable, and I don't watch any television that isn't on Netflix's instant queue - so it seems like perfect timing for Big Brother ! This season, they're bringing back probably six houseguests who have been on the show before, and I have mixed feelings about it. While I would LOVE to see Will back in the house, and definitely Evil Dick, I think bringing people back onto reality shows is usually a rotten idea. Like on Survivor - Boston Rob ran the table on that show this past season, and the others let him. Sure, they got rid of Russell (sad), but they still let a former player screw them all over and out of a million dollars. Former houseguests have an advantage and it isn't fair. Maybe they sho

So You Think You Can Dance?

This show is great, because I love dancing. The problem is, I'm not a huge fan of contemporary dance, or at least the contemporary dance that gets featured on the show. It's way too much like boring dance recitals from my high school and I find it boring. Isn't it possible to have contemporary dance to some upbeat music? It's like the winter olympics with figure skating. They always do the fun and fast song with the short program but the long program is always something slow and crazy boring. Like that one guy's JFK thing - who was that? Somebody Wyle or something. Anyway, it's all about contemporary, and I guess it's awesome or whatever, but then they add all the broadway dancing in there and it's like what the hell? It's not that much fun to watch and it isn't that impressive to watch when it's only two people - and the hip hop routines and just getting worse and worse, thanks to stupid Tabitha and Napoleon, who are totally hit or miss. I m

LOST: Season 4... A reflection...

I have always said that season 4 of LOST is, hands down, the worst season ever. However, I might be wrong. I bought the entire series on blu-ray (which is awesome), and I started watching the episodes from the beginning. I waited a fair amount of time after the show had ended because I was upset about the stupid ending and I didn't want that to taint my experience. Yes, I am a total geek. Anyway, I'm currently watching season 4, the weird episode when Jack has appendicitis (stupid). And yes, some of the storylines are weird and the freighter people are obnoxious (just Charlotte, really), but overall it's a good season. The acting is great even though the writing sucks, and Jin gets some great scenes - especially when he talks to Charlotte in Korean - that scene was awesome. Anyway, it's really not that bad. I think watching the episodes week to week is a huge mistake. I know that's why I really hated season six of the show - I never had any idea what was going on a

Super 8

To be completely honest, I was not overly excited about Super 8 because the previews made it look like another one of those movies where you never see the monster until the end and it's a huge disappointment. Plus, there are children actors, and that usually spells disaster and overacting. Happily, this was not like that. I mean, it was, but in a really great way. Spielberg plus J.J. Abrams equals awesome. I don't want to give away anything if you haven't seen it, but it's basically about a group of kids who are working on a monster movie and see a train derailed and then alien destruction happens. What was great about it, though, wasn't even the plot. The cinematography was really great but subtle and the acting was extraordinarily good, especially the kids. The director of the monster movie was awesome and the lead kid was also great. My favorite, though, was the blonde kid with the braces who liked blowing stuff up. The script was surprisingly funny for a monste

I wonder...

I went out for drinks tonight with people from work - I don't usually like to socialize with people I work with because, in general, I don't like people and I fear that my face doesn't mask my dislike. But I figured since we work out of our homes, it's not like I see these people ever, so it would be relatively fun. And it totally was. Granted, I was only there for a few hours, but it was fun. Three rum and cokes later and I came home. Do you ever wonder how you come across to other people? I generally assume I'm awesome, but it's completely possible I am just as annoying as I find most people. That would suck. But then again, I don't put a lot of thought into it, so if they think I'm obnoxious, it doesn't really matter. I also hate that once you hit about 25, you can't tell how old other people are anymore. In high school and college if you assume that everyone is your age, you're almost always right. Once you hit 25, though, it's imposs

The Netbook Has Arrived

I am totally typing on my new netbook right now. And it is awesome. Small and kind of hard to get used to, but it is the greatest thing EVER! And it is pink plaid on the front. If you want to see the exact one I got, go to bestbuy.com, click on netbook, and then HP. There are only two of them and mine is pink plaid. Hooray! Now I get to buy lots of accessories for it, which is the most fun ever! I'm going to get a wireless tiny pink mouse probably, and a case! I can't wait! Wow, I am a totally geek. The best part is how comfortable it is to type on. The keys are smooth and super comfy and not too clicky, which can be obnoxious. Huzzah for netbooks! On a side note, double huzzah for Playstation who gave me two free games because somebody crashed their network lol. And now I get to play new games for free!!! Also for my birthday (which isn't until Monday, btw - it is not possible for me to wait for presents) I got a light for my Kindle. I know it doesn't sound that impres

Netbook!

My birthday is on the 13th of June, and my boyfriend is totally buying me a netbook because he is awesome. The best part about having a netbook is that I can and will blog like, all the time. Especially while watching television. It's going to be awesome. Things that are not awesome? The weather. Seriously, I know I've lived in Ohio my whole life, but I hate that spring doesn't exist anymore. I mean, it was 40 degrees, and then it was 90. It was 40. Then 90. That is SO global warming. The great part is that I didn't complain all winter so that I could complain like a crazy person during the summertime. It's totally hypocritical to complain during the winter AND the summer, because then you're just being picky. Choose a season and stick to it. And it probably wouldn't be so bad if it was just hot - it's humid too. It's the humidity that really kicks your ass. And to make matters worse, my job requires me to wear formal work clothes, and let me tell yo

The Book of Mormon

Was amazing!!!! I can't even say how great it was - especially to see it on Broadway. I'll be posting lyrics here as I transcribe them. Enjoy!

The Book of Mormon lyrics: Turn it Off

I got a feeling that you could be feeling A whole lot better than you feel today You say you got a problem, well that's no problem It's super easy not to feel that way When you start to get confused because of thoughts in your head Don't feel those feelings hold them in instead Turn it off, like a light switch Just go click It's a cool little Mormon trick We do it all the time When you're feeling certain feelings That just don't seem right Treat those pesky feelings like a reading light And turn em off like a light switch Just go bap Really what's so hard about that? Turn it off Turn it off When I was young my dad would treat my mom real bad Every time the Utah Jazz would lose He'd start a-drinking and I'd start a-thinking How am I gonna keep my mom from getting abused I'd see her all scared and my soul was dyin' My dad would say to me now don't you dare start cryin' Turn it off Like a light switch Just go flick It's our nifty lit

The Book of Mormon lyrics: Two by Two

The most important time of a Mormon kid's life is his mission A chance to go out and help heal the world that's my mission Soon I'll be off in a different place Helping the whole human race I know my mission will be something incredible Two by two we're marching door to door Cause god loves Mormons and he wants some more A two-year mission is our sacrifice We are the army of the church of jesus christ Of latter day saints Two by two and today we'll know Who will make the journey, when and where we'll go We're fighting for a cause but we're really really nice We are the army of the church of jesus christ Of latter day saints Two by two I guess it's you and me We're off to reach across land and sea Satan has a hold of France We need to knock him off his perch We are the soldiers of the army of the church Of jesus christ of latter day saints Heavenly father where will I go on my mission Will it be China or old Mexico on my mission It could be San Fr

The Book of Mormon lyrics: All-American Prophet

You all know the bible is made of testaments old and new You've been told it's just those two parts or only one if you're a Jew But what if I were to tell you there's a fresh third part out there Which was found by a hip new prophet who had a little Donny Osmond flair Have you heard of the all-American prophet The blond haired blue-eyed boys of god He didn't come from the middle east like those other holy men No god's favorite prophet was all-American I'm gonna take you back to biblical times, 1823 An American man named Joe living on a farm in the holy land of Rochester, New York You mean the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith That's right that young man spoke to god (He spoke to god?) And god said Joe, people really need to know that the bible isn't two parts There's a part three to the bible, Joe And I god have anointed you to dig up this part three that's buried by a tree on a hill in your backyard Wow god says go to your backyard and start diggi

The Book of Mormon lyrics: I Believe

Ever since I was a child I tried to be the best So what happened? My family friends all said I was blessed So what happened? It was supposed to be all so exciting To be teaching of Christ 'cross the sea But I allowed my faith to be shaken Oh, what's the matter with me? I've always longed to help the needy To do the things I never dared This was the time for me to step up So then why was I so scared? A warlord who shoots people in the face What's so scary about that? I must trust that my lord is mightier And always has my back Now I must be completely devout I can't have even one shred of doubt I believe That the lord god created the universe I believe That he sent his only son to die for my sins And I believe That ancient Jews built boats and sailed to America I am a Mormon And a Mormon just believes You cannot just believe part way You have to believe in it all The problem was doubting the lord's will Instead of standing tall I can't allow myself to have an

The Book of Mormon lyrics: Hasa Diga Eebowai

In this part of Africa we all have a saying Whenever something bad happens We just throw our hands to the sky and say Hasa Diga Eebowai Hasa Diga Eebowai? It's the only way to get through all these troubled times There's war! Poverty! Famine! But having a saying makes it all seem better There isn't enough food to eat Hasa Diga Eebowai People are starving in the street Hasa Diga Eebowai Hasa Diga Eebowai Hasa Diga Eebowai Well that's pretty neat! Does it mean no worries for the rest of your days? Kind of... We've had no rain in several days Hasa Diga Eebowai And 80% of us have AIDS Hasa Diga Eebowai Many young girls here get circumcized The clits get cut right off (Way-oh!) And so we say up to the sky, Hasa Diga Eebowai Hasa Diga Eebowai Hasa Diga Eebowai Now you try! Just stand up tall, Tilt your head to the sky, And list off the bad things in your life. Somebody took our luggage away Hasa Diga Eebowai The plane was crowded and the bus was late Hasa Diga Eebowai Whe

Detail to New York

I am currently in Garden City, New York on detail for my job. Fun! Well, fun until my gps took me to the wrong place, then stopped working, lost my phone charger... anyway. I'm here and in a super nice hotel. But I swear, how do people live in an area where the traffic is so crazy? I haven't been in Manhattan yet, but so far it seems like New York is an anamoly - like, how is it possible that that many buildings can fit in that small of a space? It's crazy to see up close - seeing in in movies and on tv is one thing, but in real life it's actually creepy. And being in stopped traffic on the George Washington Bridge was also crazy. First of all, it's a really long bridge and I was stopped in the middle - it was like a movie and I kept expecting the bridge to crash or a plane to hit it or something - you know? Unnatural. Dayton, Ohio is more my style. Seriously. More interesting adventures to come...

Oscars

Meh. Boring, as expected. Some of the speeches were good, like Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. And when they auto-tuned Ron and Hermione, that was hilarious. And Kirk Douglas was really funny. Oh, and Aaron Sorkin won! Huzzah! But, like I said, overall it was meh. And WAY too long. But that's normal. I think the problem I have is that it's a little too predictable this year - no big surprises. Not like the year with Avatar and The Hurt Locker , because that year had drama and suspense. At least Natalie Portman won, which made me happy, but her speech was a little... something. Okay, so I spoke too soon. Best Picture went to The King's Speech , which is definitely a surprise. It makes me happy though, because I bet that movie was really great. Haven't seen it yet, but Colin Firth is amazing and Geoffrey Rush is incredible, so I'm sure it's great. Huzzah for surprises and also huzzah that The Social Network didn't win!

Oscar Predictions 2011

Okay, so I have decided that I don't care about the Academy Awards this year because, in my opinion, none of the movies are worth me caring about. So, instead of predicting who I think will win, I think I'm going to list the movies that will make me mad if they win. Much more fun! To be fair to some of the films, I haven't seen them, so I won't include those in my "ugh" predictions. I got irritated with the films I actually saw so I stopped watching. I will also not be blogging live during the show, but will have a post-Oscars blog that I'm sure you will read. :) Here goes! Best Picture - The Fighter . This movie was not worth all the hype. If it wins, that would be a travesty. I am honestly pulling for Toy Story 3 and Black Swan , but I think everyone thinks it'll be The Social Network , which is whatever. Just not Mark Wahlberg. Best Actor - NOT Jesse Eisenberg because he was okay but really irritating. I am excited to see The King's Speech bec

Grumble, grumble, grumble.

I'm kind of over music. And movies. And television. None of it is any good at the moment. All you have to do is look at the Grammy performances this year to see that current popular music is just plain horrible and hard to listen to. I mean, I like some of it, of course, but Muse sucks and so does Arcade Fire and Justin Beiber and Usher and Miranda Lambert and even Lady Gaga sucks now. The best part was when Jaden Smith rapped, and it wasn't even good. And why is it okay that Lady Gaga blatantly ripped off Madonna's "Express Yourself"? Why is that okay? Why was it okay when Christina Aguilera ripped off the video? Music is just plain disappointing lately, so I listen to the 90's station on satellite radio. Television is even worse. Awful reality shows like The Bachelor are still on, who knows why, and you still have awful shows like SVU with stupid Mariska Hargitay, who is just plain awful. And shows like CSI: Miami and the new Criminal Minds and stupid ne

Initial Oscar Predictions

Again, these are preliminary, as I have yet to see all the films. - Best Picture: I assume that The Social Network will win, and I hate that there are 10 nominated films. It won't be The Fighter , Inception , The Kids Are All Right , Toy Story 3 . Other than that, I figure Black Swan is in the running, but like I said before - Natalie Portman was awesome in it, but it wasn't the greatest movie overall, you know? So at the moment, I'm sticking with Jesse Eisenberg and Aaron Sorkin. - Best Performance by a Leading Actor: I need to watch The King's Speech , because I bet he's great in it. I also love that Jeff Bridges is nominated again, but he probably won't win. So far the only nominated movie I've seen is The Social Network , and there's no way Jesse Eisenberg is getting the win. For now I say Colin Firth, basing the decision on nothing. :) - Best Performance by a Leading Actress: This is clearly between Annette Bening and Natalie Portman, and I personal

Oscar Nominations!

Oscar nominations came out today, hooray! My early predictions will be announced soon. I will continue to not choose the movie I know will win, and instead choose the movie/role I thought was the best. Which means, once again, my average will suffer. :)

The Golden Globes: 2011

I love watching the Globes because it's not just movies but also television, so you definitely get the best of both worlds. I did not make specific predictions, but if you've read my previous posts, you know who I want to win. Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, etc. I bet that Boardwalk Empire also wins, because it's amazing. I really hope Aaron Sorkin wins for The Social Network , but don't care if that film wins anything else. You Don't Know Jack should win, but I don't know because it's the only mini-series/made for tv movie I saw. Annette Bening should win for The Kids Are All Right , and definitely Toy Story 3 . If Burlesque wins for something, I'll be very happy. I hope Glee doesn't win anything because I don't like it, but whatever. I know better than that and I'm sure it will win. Alec Baldwin should win, but he's won a bunch already, so I wouldn't be surprised if he loses this year. Best Picture Musical/Comedy will probably

Critic's Choice Awards

I didn't watch the Critic's Choice Awards, because it's usually really boring. Instead, I decided to just look at the winners for a sneak peek at who the Globes winners might be. The Social Network won best picture, which is fine, I guess. It was good or whatever, but I think Black Swan was better. Although, for mass appeal, I think The Social Network was the right one - more people have seen it and it's about something relavent and happening. Whatever. Natalie Portman and Christian Bale won, which makes me extremely happy. The King's Speech won a bunch, and I haven't seen that one yet, but I'm not surprised. Colin Firth is awesome. Toy Story 3 won best animated, and if that goes any differently at the Globes, I will be surprised. The other nominated animated films were good and all, but I don't think any of them kept my attention like that one did. Although, The Princess and the Frog was really good too - but come on, Pixar is the best. Inception

Black Swan

I have talked a lot about the pathetic and disappointing movies that have been out this year so far... This is not one of them. Black Swan , starring the amazing Natalie Portman, is amazing. It's creepy and disturbing and visually very interesting and complicated and amazing. I suppose it fits into the category of psychological thriller or something. It's one of those movies you don't even want to say anything about because it's so weird but great. Anyway, I can say that the casting was great - Natalie Portman, that creepy French guy as the choreographer/head of the ballet, Mila Kunis (who you would think would be awful but was great), and whoever played Natalie Portman's mother, she was like mommy dearest it was great. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, so you should just watch it and let it unfold. The hallucinations are the best/worst because they are so shocking (for me, anyway) but really are the best part. Anyway, see this movie. R

The Fighter

I really like Mark Wahlberg as an actor. Add in Batman (Christian Bale), and it seems like you'd have a pretty good movie on your hands. In general, boxing/wrestling movies seem to do really well ( Million Dollar Baby , Rocky , Cinderella Man , The Wrestler ), but I feel like there have been a lot of those lately. Kind of played out a bit, you know? This film is about Mark Wahlberg (Micky) being trained by his brother, Batman, who used to be a pretty well-known fighter (he fought Sugar Ray) - someone is shooting a documentary about him, and it's assumed at first that it's about him training his brother, but you find out later that it's about crack addiction. First of all, Christian Bale (Dickie) is a creepy looking guy when he's thin - remember The Machinist ? Yikes. But it definitely works for him in this movie, because he plays a guy who was famous and now is, you know, not. I'm just saying though, Batman loses forty pounds and looks like a meth addict. I mean

People's Choice Awards 2011

Queen Latifah shouldn't sing. Seriously. It doesn't sound good. And she didn't even change that stupid song with funny lyrics - it was just a crappy version of that stupid "light it up like it's dynomite" song. Ugh. Usually I am not interested in watching the People's Choice Awards, but usually they get good performances, so I will be fast-forwarding to that. Wow, Queen Latifah is a really awful emcee too, yikes. And by the way, isn't it crazy how good Jennifer Aniston still looks? And I'm very happy she didn't get scary plastic surgery like Courtney Cox - yikes. Her face is seriously terrifying. Right? Have you seen her lately?
